Nine people became U.S. citizens in a Thursday naturalization ceremony before Judge Shirley J. Christian of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Farmers market
YOUNGSTOWN
The Idora Neighborhood Farmers’ Market will open Tuesday at 2600 Glenwood Ave., on the corner of Sherwood Avenue.
The market will be at that location every Tuesday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., ending Sept. 29. It offers farm-fresh products and is hosted by the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp.
The market accepts Ohio Electronic Benefit Transfer food assistance cards; Women, Infants and Children cards; and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupons. The market can double purchases for those using food-stamp cards, up to $20 per visit.
3 cars ablaze
YOUNGSTOWN
Three cars caught fire after an apparent electrical short in Mill Creek Park on Thursday afternoon.
According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21-WFMJ News, authorities were called to a parking lot in the flats area of the park where three cars were burning not far from the Silver Bridge.
The gas tank of one of the cars exploded, and the owner of that car reported noticing a short in the car’s cigarette lighter before the fire. That was believed to have caused the fire. No one was injured, and trucks needed to haul water to the site as there are no hydrants in the area.
Acevedo jailed
GIRARD
Ricco Acevedo, 37, of Girard and Struthers, is in the Trumbull County jail awaiting an arraignment hearing today on charges of aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and felonious assault after he was arrested Thursday.
The offenses occurred early Thursday in Girard, and the U.S. Marshals Service picked him up Thursday afternoon on Countyline Road in Mineral Ridge, Girard police said.
Details on what crimes Acevedo is accused of committing were not available by press time Thursday night.
Auction, book sale
EAST PALESTINE
A silent auction and book sale, sponsored by Friends of East Palestine Memorial Public Library, 309 N. Market St., will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Sex act at the table
BOARDMAN
Township police made an arrest in a case in which a man reportedly performed a sexual act on himself at Subway inside Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
John Hunter, 28, of Youngstown, is charged with public indecency for the May 15 incident. A store employee told police at the time that she witnessed a man, who appeared to be watching a pornographic video on his phone, sitting at a table performing a sexual act.
Police arrested Hunter on Wednesday after he reportedly came back to the same Subway.
2nd annual car show
POLAND
Shepherd of the Valley, 301 W. Western Reserve Road, will host its second annual car show from 4 to 8 p.m. today. The topic at the show will be advance-care planning, and Atty. Josh Hiznay will be the speaker.
Trophies will be awarded for the staff’s, residents’ and people’s choice as well as best in show. The first 100 registered cars will receive a dash plaque. There will be entertainment and a 50/50 raffle. Food and beverages will be provided free. All proceeds will benefit the Shepherd’s Foundation.

Waterline leaks
POLAND
Aqua Ohio crews worked to restore two waterline issues in the area Thursday.
Crews were out on North Lima Road near Indian Trail for a break and on Renwick Drive for a small leak.
Company spokesman Jeff La Rue said both issues were “routine” and that he expected both to be resolved by the end of the day.

OCCHA day camp

The Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana is sponsoring a summer day camp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday-Thursday from June 22 to July 23 at the OCCHA office, 3660 Shirley Road.
The camp, open to children 5-14, offers learning through literacy, educational workshops, cultural activities and a computer lab. There will also be fun time, with sports, indoor and outdoor recreation, arts and crafts and games.

Home-invasion arrest
WARREN
Keith L. Rice, 31, of Patricia Drive in Girard, is in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond after his arrest early Thursday on an aggravated burglary charge. A not-guilty plea was entered for him in Warren Municipal Court.
Residents of a home on Packard Street Northwest identified Rice as one of four men who forced their way into the house earlier. Rice was in a nearby driveway when police arrived.
A male resident said he heard noises outside, opened the side door, and four males “came rushing in,” including Rice, who he said later knocked his juvenile daughter to the ground.
One of the suspects took a wallet from inside the house, and all four walked back out, the residents said.
Poland burglary
POLAND
Township police are investigating a reported burglary at a Lyons Boulevard property.
A victim reported to police Wednesday that someone tried to break into the property, causing damage to a door frame. No one got into the building, however, and nothing was taken. The victim provided police with suspect descriptions.
