Hilltop Elementary School celebrated its annual Right to Read Week with a theme of ‘Camp Out With a Good Book’ May 11-15.

Hilltoppers celebrated Right to Read Week by showing their spirit each day of the week. To kick off the week, Monday was Camp Out With a Good Book day and students were encouraged to dress like a camper. Students were also asked to bring a blanket and a book so they could read outside after enjoying a treat of s’mores provided by the PTO.

Each class had 30 minutes to enjoy their treat and read their books outside. PTO parents made the s’mores for the students and passed them out, along with bottled water, to the ‘campers.’

Tuesday’s dress up theme was Hats Off to a Good Book, during which students were able to wear their favorite hat during school; Wednesday’s theme was Books Have Character, during which students were encouraged to dress as their favorite book character; Thursday was Team Up With a Good Book, during which students could wear their favorite team gear; Friday was Sock it to a Good Book, during which the students wore crazy, mismatched socks.

Throughout the week students were given the opportunity to “camp out with a good book” at camping sites near their classrooms. Mystery readers also tried to stump the students each morning and each class had guest readers every day of the week.
