Woman arrested on theft warrant faces drug charges

A woman taken into custody on a theft warrant after a traffic stop about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday at McGuffey Road and Willow Street also was arrested on two felony drug charges.
Heather Carver, 38, of Florencdale Avenue, is charged with possession of drugs/heroin and possession of drugs/crack cocaine after police found individual doses of suspected crack cocaine and marijuana on her.
The theft warrant was from Trumbull County, reports said. Carver was taken to the Mahoning County jail on the drug charges.
Man arrested

Police arrested a West Side man after he continually swore at them about noon Tuesday.
Reports said David L. Cochran Jr., 19, was filming officers with his smartphone as he was swearing at them, but they just told Cochran to have a nice day.
He was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct after his yelling attracted the attention of several people in the neighborhood and he ignored requests to calm down, reports said.
Road work to begin
Work is expected to begin Monday to resurface sections of state Routes 164 and 644 in Columbiana, Carroll, and Jefferson counties.
State Route 164 will be resurfaced from Bergholz’s northern corporation line through Salineville, and state Route 644 will be resurfaced north of Salineville’s corporation.
Ohio Department of Transportation’s contractor for this $2.7 million project is Shelly and Sands Inc. from Rayland, Ohio, and the planned completion date is Sept. 30.
Street closings
YOUNGSTOWN
North Phelps Street, between Commerce and West Federal streets, and Federal, between Phelps and Wick Avenue, will be closed from 6 a.m. Friday to noon Sunday to accommodate the Beards, Burgers and Brews downtown events Friday and Saturday.
Car show planned
POLAND
Shepherd of the Valley is having its second annual car show for community members at its Poland community, 301 W. Western Reserve Road, from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Trophies will be awarded for staff’s, residents’ and people’s choice as well as best in show. The first 100 registered cars will receive a dash plaque. Entertainment, a 50/50 raffle, food, and beverages will be available and free to the public.
All proceeds from the day’s activities will benefit the Shepherd’s Foundation.

Neighborhood watch meeting set
VIENNA
The Vienna Township Neighborhood Watch will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at township hall, 848 Youngstown-Kingsville Road.
Speakers will be zoning inspector Lance Klinger, who will discuss summertime zoning issues, and fire Chief Richard Brannon, who will address fire safety and open-burning regulations. Refreshments will be served.
After the meeting, the group will not meet again until Sept. 14, when D.A.R.E. officer Mike Sheehy will speak. The group will host its annual chilli cook-off in October.
