POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

May 29

Identity fraud: A Woodlawn Avenue woman told authorities a caller claiming to represent the Internal Revenue Service tricked her into providing her name and Social Security number, then tried to ascertain how much money was in her bank account.

Identity fraud: A Hillside Drive man reported getting a notice from a collection agency before learning that someone without authorization had obtained his Social Security number and stole about $4,006 from him.

May 30

Burglary: A woman told officers her former boyfriend entered her apartment in the 400 block of Elruth Court and took a set of keys.

Domestic violence: Timothy T. Lawson, no age given, of Idaho Avenue, Girard, was charged with the crime after a family member alleged that during an argument, Lawson had grabbed her arms and shoulders, then slammed her into a wall.

Theft: A North Highland Avenue woman reported various food items as well as a camera and related accessories stolen from her residence.

May 31

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 300 block of Dearborn Avenue used a key multiple times to do roughly $1,000 in damage to a vehicle’s finish.

June 1

Criminal mischief: A man returned to his residence in the 200 block of South Davis Street and noticed a damaged side window.

Theft: A man reportedly stole two cans of shaving cream from Santisi’s IGA Super Center, 419 N. State St.

Recovered property: Someone found a Social Security card and a driver’s license while cleaning a garage in the 10 block of Browns Court.

June 2

Assault: A woman alleged that while leaving a home in the 100 block of West Howard Street, a man tossed urine on her, apparently after having accused her of a theft.

Criminal mischief: Several pole-vault mats were damaged at a stadium near North Highland Avenue. Damage was estimated at $1,000.

LIBERTY

May 27

Harassment: A Sampson Drive woman reported a family member threatened to harm her, evidently as part of a dispute regarding a family-owned business.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open a window and entered a concession trailer in the 600 block of Gypsy Lane before taking a 400-foot power cable and four car batteries.

Theft: After answering a shoplifting call at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, police arrested 32-year-old Joseph P. Cresswell of North Race Street, Greenville, Pa., who Pennsylvania authorities wanted on charges of robbery and receiving stolen property. Theft charges were pending against Cresswell and a 21-year-old Burghill woman.

Forgery: A Ravine Drive man applying for a job reported having received a counterfeit $2,480 check, supposedly from a Minnesota-based credit union. A representative with the business informed the man that several such checks were circulating, though the credit union was not accused of any wrongdoing.

Theft: Four car batteries were stolen from a garage in the 200 block of Church Hill-Hubbard Road.

Theft: A student at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, reported a $1,000 cellphone missing while in gym class.

Incident: A worker for a Belmont Avenue nail salon told officers a man had urinated on walls in the restroom.

May 28

Arrest: Austintown police relinquished custody of Tera L. Tuchek of North Hazelwood Avenue, Youngstown. The 24-year-old Tuchek was wanted on a warrant.

Theft: A Warner Road woman discovered two unauthorized $100 withdrawals had been made from her account with her two stolen bank cards.

Drugs: While responding to a possible theft at Walmart, authorities charged 23-year-old Treassa D. Spencer of Parkman Road Northwest, Warren, with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. Spencer had a syringe and two suspected crack-cocaine pipes in a wallet, a report said.

Theft: A man stole $110 worth of steaks from Giant Eagle, 4700 Belmont Ave.

May 29

Arrest: Tyrell P. Wilson was taken into custody at the Mahoning County jail. Wilson, 33, of Woodside Avenue, Youngstown, was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant.

Assault: An assistant manager with a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant alleged an employee had grabbed and forcibly squeezed her arm during a verbal altercation.

Theft/drugs: Ashley M. Hartman, 29, of South Otter Street, and Melissa Hartman, 33, of West Market Street, faced charges of theft and possession of drug-abuse instruments after $39 worth of merchandise was stolen from Walmart. The two Mercer, Pa., women also had a suspected heroin kit with two syringes, two spoons and a shoe string in a container, a report showed.

Theft: A Youngstown woman noticed her wallet missing while at a Goldie Road big-box store.

Arrest: Authorities answered a domestic-dispute call related to personal property on Lynn Drive, where they charged 43-year-old Linda Hayes of Lynn, Girard, with obstructing official business. Hayes provided false information that hampered their investigation into the matter, police said.

May 30

Arrest: Milton Township police handed to township authorities Gayle R. Lee, 47, of Woodglenn Avenue, Niles. Lee was wanted on a warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court on a larceny charge.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Belmont Avenue led to the arrest of 22-year-old Chad A. Dempsey of West Liberty Street, Girard, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and having expired license plates.

Theft: A woman reported a package containing $69 worth of costume jewelry stolen from her Scott Lane residence.

Arrest: Iliana Vega, 34, of Donation Avenue, Youngstown, was taken into custody after having been pulled over near Liberty Street. She was wanted on a Youngstown warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Arrest: Police near Gypsy Lane pulled over and arrested 29-year-old Katelyn A. Bowden of Ohio Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a Niles warrant accusing her of failing to appear in court.

May 31

Arrest: Suspicious activity in the 1600 block of Motor Inn Drive caught officers’ attention before they took into custody Iesha R. Faulkner of Salt Springs Road, Mineral Ridge. Faulkner, 28, was wanted on a felony probation-violation charge.

Arrest: A traffic stop on state Route 193 led to 31-year-old Victor Ramirez-Alcantara’s arrest. Ramirez-Alcantara, of Wirt Street, Youngstown, was wanted on a Weathersfield Township warrant charging failure to appear in court on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

June 1

Aggravated menacing: A Hadley Avenue man alleged a neighbor had threatened to kill him, apparently after being angered that the police had been called regarding an earlier dispute.

Arrest: Police in the 10 block of Colonial Drive picked up 32-year-old Lance Simmons of Frederick Street, Liberty, who was wanted on a Girard Municipal Court warrant charging failure to appear in court.

HUBBARD

May 27

Drugs: A traffic stop near Creed Street resulted in a minor-misdemeanor citation charging Ethan P. Wassil, 18, of Yankee Run Road, Masury, with marijuana possession. Wassil admitted having a bag of suspected marijuana in a book bag, police alleged.

Identity fraud: A Furlen Court woman told officers an IRS agent informed her that someone had used her name to file a fraudulent income-tax return.

May 28

Theft: A 16-inch bicycle, a nail gun and other tools were removed from a home in the 200 block of Clingan Street.

May 29

Arrest: While trying to find a missing person from Georgia, police in the 600 block of West Liberty Street took into custody 70-year-old James T. Betts, no address listed. He was wanted on a city warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

May 30

Child endangerment: A woman driving on Walnut Street reported having seen a child around age 1 in a diaper and no shoes in the middle of the road. The motorist took the child to a nearby residence in the 40 block, before which police conducted a welfare check.

Harassment: A Youngstown-Hubbard Road man said his former girlfriend made such a call to him.

Theft: A man and a woman reportedly stole about $15 worth of merchandise from Dollar General, 886 W. Liberty St.

June 1

Theft: A $500 wicker table was missing from a basement in the 20 block of Jackson Street.

Trespassing: A criminal-trespassing charge was pending against a 30-year-old Hubbard man after a woman told police she knew who was responsible for a series of vehicle break-ins.

Burglary: A caretaker for a home in the 600 block of Meadowland Drive noticed a rear garage-door was open, apparently via forced entry, though it was unknown if anything was missing.
