Staff report
YOUNGSTOWN
The 2015 4K for Cancer Ride, which travels across the country from Baltimore to Seattle, will arrive in the Youngstown-Warren area Saturday. Participating riders are expected to arrive at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., and depart for the next leg of their ride at 7 a.m. Sunday.
Thirty-one college-age participants are a part of the 2015 4K for Cancer Ride, a program of the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, which is dedicated to empowering young adults in uniting communities across the country in the fight against cancer through community service and support.
The Ulman Fund’s programs and services address areas of cancer support, health and wellness, advocacy and education specific to young adults dealing with cancer.
Participants in the ride left Baltimore at 7 a.m. Sunday from Inner Harbor and are set to finish at noon Aug. 8 in Seattle. Before their Youngstown stop, participants previously were in Oil City, Pa. The group will next travel north of Warren on their way to Cleveland.
The ride, in its 14th year of cycling across America and fifth year traveling from Baltimore to Seattle, is a 70-day, 4,000 mile trek and is its most northern route.
This year’s Seattle route will meet up with the Portland ride in Columbus, Chicago, Rapid City, S.D., and Missoula, Mont. Each rider was required to raise $4,500 to participate.
