Grievances filed against Northside

Grievances filed against Northside

YOUNGSTOWN

Fifty-two nurses have filed a set of mass grievances against Community Health System’s Northside Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, over mandatory overtime, a practice the nurses say is potentially dangerous because it contributes to nurse fatigue, which can jeopardize patient care, and is contrary to their work agreement with the hospital.

The arbitration hearing on the grievances began Tuesday and is expected to continue through today.

According to the Ohio Nurses Association, Northside registered nurses, represented by the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association, have worked 1,497 hours of mandatory overtime in 2015.

At 10 a.m. today, RNs Jeannie Mulichak and Lori Hornberger will lead a press conference on the Northside sidewalk along Gypsy Lane.

Graham to run unchallenged for council president

WARREN

Jim Graham will not have a challenger in the November election for his seat as Warren City Council president.

The Trumbull County Board of Elections on Tuesday rejected the petitions of John Robertson, who sought to run in November as an independent.

The board ruled that Robertson did not have enough valid signatures after some were invalidated because the signer did not live in the city, his or her address did not match the one on file at the elections board, or the signer printed instead of using cursive, said Jodi Fiorenzo Dibble, elections board director.

All other independents were certified for the ballot.

Internal affairs probing officer’s use of database

WARREN

An internal-affairs investigation is underway into a Warren police officer’s use of a statewide database used by law-enforcement agencies, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.

The investigation involves Patrolman Jason McCollum and the Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway system. Questions surrounding his searches on the system came to light after an audit by the Ohio attorney general’s office.

McCollum remains on the job, and the Warren Police Department plans to wrap up its investigation next week.
