Duking it out for top-restaurant spot

The battle to be the world’s No. 1 restaurant once again felt like a tussle between Spain and Denmark, with Italy caught in the middle.

El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain, got the top spot on the annual The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, announced Monday in London, beating Noma, Rene Redzepi’s daringly innovative Danish restaurant, which fell from first to third place. Wedged between them at No. 2 was Modena, Italy’s Osteria Francescana, which had held third place for the past two years.

Cosby seeks to block subpoena to lawyer

PHILADELPHIA

Bill Cosby is seeking to keep the lid on material linked to a confidential 2006 settlement of a Philadelphia sex-assault lawsuit.

Cosby’s lawyers moved Tuesday to block a subpoena sent to a lawyer for the Philadelphia accuser by three women now suing Cosby for defamation in Massachusetts.

Tamara Green, Therese Serignese and Linda Traitz accuse Cosby of defaming them by having his agents deny their claims that the actor had molested them in the 1970s.

They believe documents from the former Temple University employee’s lawsuit will help their cause. Andrea Constand accused Cosby of drugging and sexually assaulting her at his suburban mansion. However, her settlement with the actor is protected by a confidentiality agreement.

Cosby’s lawyers argued Tuesday that court confidentiality agreements “should not be set aside lightly.”

Mariah Carey joins Match.com for video

NEW YORK

Mariah Carey has joined Match.com – not just for love, but to promote her latest single.

The pop diva joined the dating website early Tuesday as she launched the music video for “Infinity,” which debuted on Match and VEVO.

Carey’s profile says she’s divorced and has two children. She posted four photos, including one of her singing and another of her taking a selfie.

The 45-year-old said in a statement: “I hope every woman who is single and listens to this song goes out and finds her infinity, whether on Match or the traditional way.”

In her new music video, Carey considers three potential Match suitors.

Other musicians have used dating sites to launch music, including DJ-producer Zedd, who used Tinder last month to help promote his album, “True Colors.”

Folk singer, dulcimer player Ritchie dies at 92

NEW YORK

Jean Ritchie, the Kentucky-born folksinger who brought the centuries-old ballads she grew up with to a wide audience from the 1950s onward, died Monday evening. She was 92.

Ritchie died in her home in Berea, Ky., with family around her, her niece Judy Hudson said.

The tall, red-haired Ritchie, who grew up in Kentucky’s Cumberland mountains, sang ballads with a clear soprano voice. She accompanied herself on the guitar, autoharp or the mountain dulcimer, a stringed instrument played while placed on the performer’s lap that Ritchie helped rescue from obscurity.
