Detectives said tips from the public helped them find the man they think robbed a downtown bank Friday.
Detective Sgt. Tom Parry said investigators began receiving tips just after they asked media outlets to publish a photo of the man they suspected of robbing the Huntington Bank branch on Market Street about 1:40 p.m. Friday.
Police took Randy Jamison, 39, into custody Monday. He is in the Mahoning County jail and is expected to be charged with aggravated robbery.
Parry said police found Jamison in the psychiatric ward at ValleyCare North Side medical center. Parry said Jamison was taken there after he had some involvement with Liberty police early Monday.
Reports said the bank robber gave a teller a note and received some cash, then ran out through the Boardman Street entrance. No weapon was shown, reports said.
Parry said Jamison acted on his own.
Shortly after the robbery, police released still photos of the robber inside the bank and also examined other surveillance cameras in the area downtown around the bank.
Municipal court records show Jamison has charges dating back to 1998 for charges including aggravated robbery, theft and breaking and entering.
