Police probe shooting of 7-year-old

Staff report

CAMPBELL

Police will talk with the prosecutor today about whether to press charges in a shooting injury of a 7-year-old boy Sunday morning.

The boy was at his grandfather’s home on Penhale Avenue where his uncle visited.

According to a police report, the uncle, who has an active carry-and-conceal permit set to expire in 2019, left his firearm on a chair in the house.

The uncle and the grandfather were then working in the garden when they heard a loud bang. They found the juvenile on the back porch bleeding.

Police said the bullet entered cleanly through the victim’s right thigh. The uncle drove the child to the St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

The child was expected to be released from the hospital Monday night, according Vindicator broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.
