Northside nurses file grievance over mandatory OT

YOUNGSTOWN — Fifty-two nurses have filed a set of mass grievances against Community Health System’s Northside Medical Center, 500 Gypsy Lane, over mandatory overtime, a practice the nurses say is potentially dangerous because it contributes to nurse fatigue, which can jeopardize patient care, and is contrary to their work agreement with the hospital.

The arbitration hearing on the grievances began today and are expected to continue through Wednesday.

According to the Ohio Nurses Association, Northside registered nurses, represented by the Youngstown General Duty Nurses Association, have worked 1,497 hours of mandatory overtime in 2015.

At 10 a.m. Wednesday, RNs Jeannie Mulichak and Lori Hornberger, will lead a press conference about the grievances on the Northside sidewalk along Gypsy Lane.
