Man pleads not guilty in shooting injury of nephew

CAMPBELL — A Campbell man was arraigned in court this morning to face charges for the shooting injury of his 7-year-old nephew Sunday morning.

Daniel Prasinos, 32, pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor charges of endangering children, and failure to secure dangerous ordnance.

He will appear at a pre-trial on both charges Oct. 20. Bond was set at $4,000.

According to a police report, the boy was at his grandfather’s home on Penhale Avenue where his uncle visited. The uncle, who has an active carry-and-conceal permit set to expire in 2019, allegedly left his firearm on a chair in the house. The uncle and the grandfather were then working in the garden when they heard a loud bang. They found the juvenile on the back porch bleeding.

Police said the bullet entered cleanly through the victim’s right thigh.

The boy was expected to be released Monday night from St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. The hospital would not confirm the child's condition or status this morning.
