Victory for transparency
Columbus Dispatch: Otterbein University has lost its fight to keep secret the records generated by its private police force, under a 4-3 ruling by the Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday. This is a win for the student journalists who persisted to provide their community with vital safety and officer-conduct information.
And it is a win for all Ohioans, because there are dozens of other private police forces operating across the state.
In a free society, police work must be done in the open to guard against abuse, as well as to protect officers against unfounded charges.
