UPDATE | Surgeons close Jamie's incision after liver transplant
WARREN — Surgeons at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC closed the incision made for the liver transplant received last Wednesday by Jamie, 4, of Trumbull County, a move considered another positive step in her recovery.
The incision was left open so doctors could better monitor her progress and not have to operate again if something went wrong, said Marilyn Pape, department manager for foster care and adoption for Trumbull County Children Services, which has had custody of Jamie since she was an infant.
Jamie was placed in an induced coma to aid her recovery, but she is expected to be awakened in the next few days. Also, Jamie’s donor, David Denovchek of Niles, is expected to be released from the hospital in the next few days, Pape said.
