Conviction upheld in vehicular homicide case

YOUNGSTOWN — A three-judge panel of the 7th District Court of Appeals has unanimously upheld Christopher Kelso’s conviction for aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault in a Feb. 2, 2010, crash on Wilson Avenue near Prospect Avenue.

Kelso, 34, of Youngstown, was sentenced to seven years in prison by Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, after a jury convicted him in the crash that killed Pamela Kennedy, 28, of Boardman, and seriously injured Javier Colon, 34, of Youngstown, who were passengers in the car Kelso was driving.

“His conviction is supported by sufficient evidence,” the appeals court ruled Friday. The panel also rejected Kelso’s claim that his defense lawyer was ineffective.
