Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser is June 14

In conjunction with Vertical Runner of McDonald, Big Brothers Big Sisters will have a 5K-run/1-mile walk June 14 at Prospect Elementary School, 700 E. Prospect St.

Registration is $25 in advance and $30 the day of the race. Participants can register online at www.VerticalRunnerMcDonald.com.

The course is a combination of residential streets through Girard and a section of the cross-country trails through Liberty Park.

Runners will start at Prospect Elementary for a downhill mile, and then make a sweeping turn into Liberty Park for a jaunt on a crushed-rock wooded trail, then continue back on the road for an uphill finish at Prospect.

After the race, snacks and refreshments will be provided, and an awards ceremony will take place. This is the first in a series of “Trail Mix” races that will provide a mix of road and trail running.

Packet pick up is at Vertical Runner of McDonald, 241 E. Marshall Road, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. June 12 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 13.

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that better their lives.

All proceeds will directly benefit children in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
