9 seek interim Youngstown superintendent's post
YOUNGSTOWN — Two former city school principals, the head of a city charter school and a superintendent from Michigan are among the nine applicants to be Youngstown City Schools’ interim superintendent.
A committee of city school board, Youngstown School District Academic Distress Commission and community members expects to interview four of the eight applicants today and recommend two or three of those interviewed to the school board by next Tuesday. The board will make the decision, although the commission has veto authority.
Commission Chairman Joffrey Jones said a vote from the commission isn’t required to select the interim superintendent. That person is expected to serve for about six months. There haven’t been any plans announced for a permanent replacement for Connie Hathorn, who resigned to become superintendent of Watson Chapel Schools in Pine Bluff, Ark. His last official day is June 30, but because of accumulated vacation, his last day on the job was Friday.
