NILES
A pair of children’s television stars will greet fans and sign autographs this weekend at Eastwood Mall.
Keegan Allen of ABC’s “Pretty Little Liars” will be at the mall’s play area Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m., and Karan Brar of the Disney Channel’s “Jessie” will be in the J.C. Penney court Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m.
Both events are free, but fans are advised to arrive early and will be limited to one autograph each.
The appearances are sponsored by Dr. Daniel G. Very, and will mark the grand reopening of Very Orthodontics Smile Cove, which will open with a ceremony at noon Saturday.
The Smile Cove is a soft-play area in the J.C. Penney court. It is designed to promote good dental health as depicted by characters from the “Captain McFinn & Friends” book series.
Grant for vehicles
NILES
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, was to join Niles fire Chief David Danielson today to announce a $400,000 federal grant for the department for vehicle acquisition.
The grant comes to Niles through a Round 9 Department of Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program Award for fiscal year 2014. The grant presentation is set for 10 a.m. at the fire department at 15 E. State St.
Area of park closed
YOUNGSTOWN
The Judge Leo P. Morley Performing Arts Pavilion and adjacent lawn and parking areas will be closed to vehicular and foot traffic from 9 a.m. Saturday until 2 p.m. Sunday for a Mill Creek MetroParks program.
Portions of Bears Den Drive from McCollum Road to Cross Drive also will be closed to vehicular traffic during portions of the event. The Morley Pavilion is at the Wick Recreation Area; other facilities within that area will remain open.
Culvert replacement
BLOOMFIELD
Countyline Donley Road, between Bloomfield Geneva Road and Mahan Parker Road in Bloomfield Township will be closed Monday through Friday for culvert replacement.
The recommended detour route is southeast on Bloomfield Geneva Road, south on state Route 45, west on state Route 87 and north on state Route 534.
Woman suspects rape
WARREN
An Akron woman reported she thinks she was raped May 10 in Warren after she passed out from drinking.
The woman, 18, said her boyfriend told her in late May his friends had sex with her while she was passed out, and they took pictures of her naked.
The woman said she was staying with her boyfriend in Warren at the time after her mother kicked her out, and that’s when it happened.
The woman said she came to Warren the first chance she got to make out a report after she “found out she was raped.”
Burglary reported

Township police are investigating a reported burglary at an Oregon Trail apartment.
The purported victim reported to police Wednesday that someone entered her apartment through an unlocked window and stole a laptop and charger.
The value of the missing property is estimated at $1,000.
Man charged with OVI
BOARDMAN
A township man is charged with a felony count of operating a vehicle while impaired after police discovered he had three prior convictions for the offense in the last six years.
Police arrested Robert Rowney, 74, of Ewing Road, on Glenwood Avenue near Brookfield Avenue late Wednesday after he reportedly failed a field-sobriety test.
Police reportedly found a half-empty bottle of vodka in the car. A breath-analysis test determined that Rowney’s blood-alcohol content was 0.143. The legal limit in Ohio is 0.08.
