Jets’ Richardson finds more trouble

FLORHAM PARK, N.J

Sheldon Richardson has already been suspended four games by the NFL for drug use. The New York Jets defensive lineman is now facing trouble with the law.

Richardson was charged Thursday in St. Charles County, Missouri, with resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations for an incident on July 14 — just two weeks after his NFL-issued drug suspension for marijuana use.

According to a release issued by the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Richardson was driving at “exceedingly high rates of speed” on Interstate 64 in “what appeared to be a road race.”

In the police’s probable cause report, an officer stated that Richardson and the other vehicle were traveling at speeds as high as 143 mph. When the officer attempted to make routine traffic stops on the vehicles, Richardson sped away.

Isner advances at Atlanta Open

ATLANTA

Two-time defending champion John Isner beat Radek Stepanek 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7) on Thursday night in his opening match in the Atlanta Open.

The top-seeded Isner has reached the final four of the last five years, winning the last two after losing to Mardy Fish in 2010 and 2011.

Isner is 12-1 in tiebreakers in Atlanta since 2012.

Isner’s booming serve was potent, with the 6-foot-10 former University of Georgia player ripping 33 aces to three for Stepanek.
