News conference scheduled at racino

State, local and racino officials will host a news conference to kick off “Responsible Gaming Education Week” on Monday at Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course.
The week is observed nationally to discuss problem gaming and how to recognize those issues and how to find help. The kickoff event is set for 11:30 a.m.
Programs and activities will be hosted throughout the week at the racino.
Speakers are Mike Galle, Hollywood Gaming general manager; Ohio Senate Minority Leader Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd; state Rep. Sean O’Brien of Bazetta, D-63rd; Mahoning County Commissioner David Ditzler; Austintown Township Trustee Jim Davis; and Karen Russo, outreach and problem gambling coordinator for the Ohio Lottery Commission.
Police called to house to search for girl missing
WARREN
Police were called to a house on Jackson Street Southwest at 5:21 p.m. Wednesday to try to find Alesha Bell, the Warren girl who police reported missing earlier Wednesday.
They checked houses on Jackson and other nearby streets on a rumor she was being held captive, but they found nothing.
Bell’s mother reported her missing July 23, saying she’d last been seen walking on Southwest Boulevard Northwest. Bell has a 2-year-old child.
Officer finds man who was assaulted
YOUNGSTOWN
An officer on his way to a call about 11:35 p.m. Wednesday on the West Side found a man who was pistol whipped to the head.
Reports said Patrolman Anthony Congemi was flagged down in front of the main fire station on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard where a homeless man told him his friend was pistol whipped while sleeping under the Spring Common bridge.
When the officer went to the West Front Street end of the bridge, he found the 38-year-old victim bleeding from the head and nose.
Reports said the victim was able to identify the man who beat him. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Suspect is found buried in insulation
YOUNGSTOWN
Police found a man buried in insulation while serving a search warrant investigating drug activity about 5 p.m. Wednesday at a West Ravenwood Avenue home on the South Side.
Police found Roderick Jackson, 29, hiding in a cubbyhole while searching his home.
Police found three bags of a substance used to augment doses of drugs.
Officers also found two scales, a bag of suspected crack cocaine, a bag of suspected marijuana, and a magazine filled with .380-caliber ammunition.
Reports also said a pit bull was in the basement, and the Mahoning County dog warden’s office was called and a deputy dog warden filed an animal-cruelty charge against Jackson.
City police charged Jackson with possession of drug paraphernalia and took him into custody on a warrant from municipal court for failure to appear.
