On June 25, the Poland library welcomed guest Martha Swiss, a master gardener, to instruct Creating a Natural Look in the Garden.
Swiss began her class with a series of pictures of gardens designed to look natural and gardens with exotic plants, not found locally.
“We’re learning how to make landscape look more in keeping with the surrounding landscape and how to make it more natural looking as opposed to contrived looking,” Swiss said.
She instilled that neither technique was more correct than the other, but Swiss supported the natural look — especially for people with busy lives.
“I think a lot of people look for ways to make their landscapes to look more natural because much of their efforts are wasted when they get lost in the business of their everyday lives,” Swiss said.
Swiss talked about the importance of valuing nature and the nature we have already before us, especially the nature we have control over.
“We like to reconnect with nature and being able to do that on our own property is great,” Swiss said. “It’s very fulfilling.”
