Ohio State coach Meyer, mascot celebrated in butter at fair

COLUMBUS

Winning another national championship has made Urban Meyer a butter man.

The Ohio State University football coach and Buckeyes mascot Brutus are being honored with butter sculptures at this year’s Ohio State Fair, which opened Wednesday in Columbus.

The life-size sculptures are joining the traditional butter cow and calf in a 46-degree cooler in the American Dairy Association display. There’s also a national championship trophy and two Buckeyes football helmets. All made out of butter. About 2,000 pounds of it.

The display required about 500 hours of work. Wooden and steel frames were built to support the weight of the butter, which was sliced from 55-pound blocks. The butter was sculpted inside the chilly cooler.

The university says Meyer was unable to attend the Tuesday unveiling.

BLM: Idaho cyclist sparks fire by burning used toilet paper

BOISE, Idaho

Authorities say a cyclist started a 73-acre wildfire in southwest Idaho by lighting his toilet paper on fire after taking a comfort break.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management officials say the cyclist stopped to defecate in a ravine in the Boise foothills July 22. The man then lit the toilet paper on fire but lost control of the embers in the dry grass while trying to extinguishing the waste.

Firefighters contained the flames several hours later.

Investigators say the man contacted them last Thursday, and his story matched the evidence found at the scene.

The BLM did not release the name of the cyclist. However, officials say he will be fined for causing the fire.

Craigslist founder gives group $10,000 for composting toilet

MORRISTOWN, N.J.

The founder of Craigslist has donated $10,000 for a composting toilet that will be named in his honor by a northern New Jersey organization.

Grow It Green Morristown says Craig Newmark’s donation likely will cover the purchase of the toilet for the group’s Early Street Community Garden.

Newmark spent the first 12 years of his life across the street from the community garden, which used to be a junkyard.

He told NJ.com that he loves what people can do using the Internet, but he says clean water and sanitation matter more.

A composting toilet uses an aerobic reaction instead of water to break down waste. The garden’s commode will be called the “Craig Newmark Memorial Latrine No. 2.”
