Some city residents were without water for a brief time Tuesday morning and water pressure was low throughout the city when a waterline off West State Street sprung a leak about 8 a.m.

A spokesman for the Salem Water Department said houses in the area of East Fourth Street were without water while repairs were being made, but that the major leaks were stopped by 9 a.m., according to 21 WFMJ-TV, the Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

An estimated 400,000 gallons of water were lost.

It took water department crews about eight hours to complete repairs. No boil alert was issued.

Volunteers needed

YOUNGSTOWN

South Side Academy, formerly located on Market Street, is ready to occupy its new location at the former St. Patrick School on Oak Hill Avenue.

Academy officials said they have a need for volunteers to help move all the equipment/school supplies out of storage Thursday.

They will be at the storage unit at 8 a.m. to begin loading moving vans.

The storage unit is at Uncle Bob’s Storage, 3690 LeHarps Drive, Austintown, off Meridian Road.

Campbell man charged

CAMPBELL

A traffic stop early Tuesday led to a city man being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

A police report states that an officer stopped Francisco Serrano Jr., 41, of Campbell at Courtland Avenue and Gladstone Street for speeding and found a tube with suspected marijuana residue in his vehicle.

Serrano will be arraigned Aug. 4 in Campbell Municipal Court.
