NJ man enters not-guilty pleas

Wason Neal, 40, of Old Bridge, N.J., entered not-guilty pleas during his arraignment Monday in Girard Municipal Court to charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of criminal tools, petty theft and not having an operating license.

Police arrested Neal after receiving a report of a shoplifter arguing with security outside the Walmart store on Goldie Road.

A police report says officers found a knife in Neal’s pocket and that there were two warrants for his arrest out of Portage and Summit counties.

Walmart employees told police they saw Neal place stickers on merchandise in order to purchase at a reduced price.

Police found two New Jersey driver’s licenses and an Ohio identification card on him, according to the report. Police also found two more New Jersey driver’s licenses and 34 gift cards and store credit cards in Neal’s car.

Traffic stops lead to multiple arrests

A traffic stop Monday afternoon led to the arrest of a man on charges of possession of drugs and driving under suspension.

Police stopped Steven Dejesus, 32, of Youngstown at Lincoln Avenue and Seventh Street and found 18.9 grams of suspected marijuana, according to a police report. Dejesus will be arraigned Friday in Struthers Municipal Court.

Another traffic stop Saturday evening at Elm Street and Grandview Avenue led to two drug-related arrests.

Police arrested Joel Miller, 20, of Poland, on charges of possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia and driving under suspension, and Grace Christopher, 19, of Poland, on charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

A police report states officers found rolling papers, a small amount of suspected marijuana and a jar with suspected marijuana residue in the vehicle.

Miller and Christopher will be arraigned today in municipal court.

Fire destroys home in Campbell

CAMPBELL

A fire about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday destroyed a Devitt Avenue home, Campbell firefighters said.

A department spokesman said the cause of the fire is still unknown but that the home’s owner awoke to a popping noise.

The fire department arrived at the scene and rescued the elderly home-owner, who said she’s lived in the house all her life.

No injuries were reported.

Special meeting

POLAND

The Poland school board will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. today in the board office, 3339 Dobbins Road, to proceed with a resolution for a bond levy.
