Four people arrested by police on drug charges Friday in separate traffic stops were arraigned Monday in municipal court.

Of those arrested, two had heroin, one had cocaine and one had pills, police said. Police also seized almost $1,500 in cash.

Magistrate Anthony Sertick set bond at $5,000 for Jerry Carter, 41, of Weston Avenue, who was pulled over for making an illegal turn about 10:30 p.m. Friday at Everett Avenue and Youngstown-Poland Road by vice squad officers working a street detail.

Reports said Carter kept clenching his hand as if he had something in it, and police said when he opened his hand, he had a bag of heroin. He was arrested on a charge of possession of heroin and taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Also arrested on a charge of possession of heroin was Corey Miller, 22, of East Park Avenue in Columbiana. He also was pulled over for an illegal turn about 9:05 p.m. on Market Street by a police dog handler. He admitted having marijuana in his car, and police also found a bag of heroin in the car. There also was a bag of marijuana, rolling papers and a marijuana pipe, reports said. His bond was set at $3,500.

Miller also had $472 cash on him, reports said.

Arraigned on a felony charge of possession of drugs and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drugs was 22-year-old Akeem Hargrove of Parkcliffe Avenue. Reports said he was in a car on a South Side street about 5:45 p.m. Friday and refused to move even after an officer behind him blew his air horn.

When the officer went to see what was wrong, he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the car, reports said. Reports said Hargrove told the officer he was rolling a marijuana cigarette. When Hargrove was searched, police found three pills on him, and he was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Hargrove asked for a court-appointed lawyer, saying he doesn’t work or have a car or home, but his request was denied by Magistrate Sertick because he had more than $1,000 on him. Hargrove told the judge his parents gave him the money because he was driving a rental car and had to pay the rental fee. Magistrate Sertick set his bond at 10 percent of $2,500.

Steve Croom, 57, who is homeless, was arraigned on a charge of possession of cocaine after he was arrested about 11:40 p.m. Friday when a car he was a passenger in was stopped for an illegal turn by vice squad officers at Overland and Warren avenues. Reports said he had a bag of cocaine in a sock. His bond was set at $5,000.
