HUBBARD

Hubbard Township police responded Sunday to reports of a woman assaulted at the Flying J Travel Plaza on North Main Street.

Officers arrived to find a 31-year-old woman on the ground and bleeding from the head. Ambulance workers said that the woman had lost consciousness at some point. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

A witness said the woman was assaulted by the man she had been driving with, after he tried to grab a 2 x 4 piece of wood from her van and then followed her into a woman’s restroom. Kelvin Fitzpatrick, 40, of Lithonia, Ga., later turned himself in to police. He was charged with felonious assault, assault and criminal damaging.

A Youngstown man faces multiple felony charges after he was arrested by township police and members of the U.S. marshals fugitive task force.

Nicholas Kovacs, 33, was arrested Friday on two counts of tampering with coin machines and two counts of vandalism, fifth-degree felonies.

The charges stem from a July 21 incident in which the owner of Maytag Laundry, 5048 Youngstown-Poland Road, reported that someone pried open several coin-operated machines and stole money from them.

Kovacs reportedly got away with about $300 and caused more than $1,000 in damage. He was taken to the Mahoning County jail.

Man, 35, arrested

CAMPBELL

Police arrested Carl Flesher, 35, of Campbell on Sunday on charges of aggravated menacing, disrupting public service, obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Police said Flesher called 911 to say he would start shooting people if police did not arrive at his Devitt Avenue residence.

Once police arrived, the report states that Flesher used expletives and repeatedly yelled “Tase me!” According to the report, after issuing warnings time, officer Eric Manning stunned Flesher twice with an electric device.

Officers then handcuffed Flesher and transported him to the Mahoning County Justice Center where he will be held without bond until his arraignment today in Campbell Municipal Court.

Gunfire reported

CAMPBELL

Reports of gunfire near Woodland Avenue early Sunday led to two arrests.

Police arrested Luis Gonzalez, 36, of Campbell for being a felon in possession of a weapon, prohibited discharge of a firearm and using weapons while intoxicated. Police also arrested Andre Ortiz, 35, of Austintown for obstructing official business.

A neighbor told police Gonzalez was firing a gun in a Woodland Avenue driveway.

Police retrieved spent ammunition from the driveway.

Gonzalez will be held without bond until his arraignment today in Campbell Municipal Court.

Ortiz was released from custody after posting a $1,500 bond. He will be arraigned Friday in Campbell Municipal Court.
