Youngstown police arrest siblings in connection with pistol-whipping
YOUNGSTOWN
Police arrested two people in connection with the pistol-whipping of a man on Princeton Avenue this evening.
Police said late Monday that they have charged Jawuan Brown, 21, of Youngstown with felonious assault; and charged Jalesa Brown, 19, of Austintown with complicity to felonious assault.
Officers said both Jalesa and Jawuan Brown are siblings of Jarrell Brown.
The body of Jarrel Brown, 18, of East LaClede Avenue, was found about 10:15 p.m. Sunday at West Indianola Avenue and Market Street. His death is the city’s 13th homicide of 2015.
Officers were called to the intersection by a passer-by who spotted a man lying on his back in the street, said Lt. Doug Bobovnyik of the department’s detective bureau. By the time officers arrived, an ambulance crew had checked the man and he had no pulse, reports said.
The pair believed that the man who was pistol-whipped had something to do with their brother’s death, police said. Jalesa and Jawaun Brown will be arraigned Tuesday in Youngstown Municipal Court.
