Opera company receives grants

Opera Western Reserve has received grants from the following foundations:

The Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, $1,500; Monday Musical Club, $2,500; Frances and Lillian Schermer Charitable Trust, $1,000; the Sen. Maurice and Florence Lipscher Charitable Trust, $2,000 in support of OWR’s Nov. 13 production of “The Elixir of Love”; and Denise DeBartolo York, $5,000 in support of OWR’s Young Artists Program.

Party at the Beach at lakefront park

LAKE MILTON

The annual Party at the Beach at the Lake Milton State Park Amphitheater will be Saturday from 6 to 11 p.m. Admission is $5 ($1 for children). The event features the bands Mid Life Crisis and Long Shots. Food and drink will be sold.

4-D theater to open at Kennywood Park

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa.

The new 4-D theater opens Wednesday at Kennywood Park near Pittsburgh with “Ice Age: No Time For Nuts 4-D.” The nine-minute show is presented in high-definition 3-D projection combined with in-theater special effects.

Admission to the 4-D theater is included with a FunDay or season pass, which are available at the park’s ticket gate and at Kennywood.com.

Celtic Thunder duo returning to Avion

Celtic Thunder’s Neil Byrne and Ryan Kelly will return to Avion on the Water, 2177 W. Western Reserve Road, on Sept. 13 for an 8 p.m. concert. Joined by Nicole Hudson on fiddle and Peter Sheridan on mandolin and keyboard, Byrne and Kelly will present a concert that combines Irish, Americana and original songs.
