Sophia DiRusso and Christopher Valkier, both of Cleveland, exchanged vows May 16 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. The Rev. Tom Ziegler officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony, and a reception followed at Das Dutch Village Inn in Columbiana.
The bride’s parents are Achille and Janice DiRusso of Youngstown, and the groom’s parents are D.J. and Mary Valkier of Grand Rapids, Mich.
The bride graduated from Youngstown State University, and the groom graduated from Michigan State University.
Mrs. Valkier wore a custom gown made by her mother’s cousin, Karen Glass, who combined parts of her mother’s and two aunts’ gowns. It was a silk satin ball gown with a tulle illusion neckline and a cathedral veil.
The bride’s sister, Carlina DiRusso, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Valkier, the groom’s sister; Jaclyn Weaver; Jade Turner and Gina Farmintino, the bride’s cousins; and Katerina Hazimihalis. The bride’s cousins, Alyssa and Lexie Rich, were flower girls. The attendants wore varying shades of blue dresses.
Graham Zaagman performed the duties of best man. Groomsmen were Evan Wilterink, Grant Breuker, Bryton Zaagman, Jesse Peterson and Mike Vanden Bosch.
