Man arrested after assault at travel plaza
HUBBARD — Police responded on Sunday to reports of a woman assaulted at the Flying J Travel Plaza on N. Main Street.
A police report states that officers arrived to find a 31-year old woman lying on the ground and bleeding from the head. Life Fleet ambulance workers said the woman had lost consciousness.
Life Fleet transported the woman to St. Elizabeth's hospital.
A witness stated that the woman was assaulted by the man she had been driving with after he took a 2-by-4-foot piece of wood from her van and then followed her into a woman's restroom.
The man, Kelvin Fitzpatrick, 40, of Lithonia, Ga., later turned himself in to police.
Fitzpatrick was arrested and charged with felonious assault, assault and criminal damaging.
