The third annual Jamail E. Johnson Memorial Scholarship Golf Outing will take place Aug. 15 at Pine Lakes Golf Club, 6233 W. Liberty St. Psi Omicron/Zeta Gamma chapters of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. are sponsoring the event.

The committee is seeking hole sponsorships and golfers for the outing. The proceeds will be used for scholarships to deserving students who exhibit the principles that Johnson lived by: manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift.

The format is a two-person scramble. Check-in time begins at 9:15 a.m., and the first tee-off will be at 10:15.

Sponsorships available are Purple for $350, which covers a banner, team, dinner and corporate acknowledgement at the awards ceremony; Gold, $300 for a banner, team and dinner; and Banner, for $100.

Johnson was killed Feb. 6, 2011, in a shooting at a fraternity house in Youngstown. He was born April 19, 1985, and was initiated into Omega Psi Phi in 2009.

He was one of six young men who reactivated the Zeta Gamma Chapter at Youngstown State University after a more than 40-year absence. He also was involved in many community activities such as serving as a mentor and tutor to students at Wilson Middle School, helping HIV awareness programs for the homeless and establishing toy drives for underprivileged children.

He was posthumously awarded his degree in business administration from YSU in 2011.
