A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:
POLAND
July 15
Burglary: A township woman reported a burglary to her residence, though the report didn’t give an address. A safe and various pieces of jewelry were stolen.
July 18
Theft: A Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road woman reported several personal checks, gift cards and a credit card stolen.
BOARDMAN
July 15
Arrest: Police conducting a welfare check at a Griswold Drive residence charged Donald J. Schenker of Willow Drive, Boardman, with violating a protection order after saying the 53-year-old man was at his estranged wife’s residence in violation of the order.
Aggravated menacing: A Glenwood Avenue woman told officers that two women had threatened her as well as other tenants.
Burglary: To an apartment in the 800 block of Cook Avenue via the front door. Stolen was $1,150.
Theft: An elderly Hubbard woman reported her purse stolen while at a Tiffany Boulevard business.
Drugs: Police on Market Street picked up Christina M. Vaclav, 18, of Allen Drive, Boardman, who was wanted on a charge of possession of drug-abuse instruments after authorities had responded to a possible domestic-violence situation. A family member gave officers a bag containing suspected drug contraband, they alleged.
Theft: A woman discovered $5,750 worth of jewelry missing from her Pine Hill Drive home.
Theft: An $11,690 diamond engagement ring was removed from a residence in the 30 block of Shadyside Drive.
July 16
Aggravated menacing: A Glenwood Avenue woman alleged another woman threatened to have members of a motorcycle gang kill the accuser as part of a dispute regarding a child.
Bad check: Erika N. Fuller, 33, of Cranberry Township, Pa., surrendered on a misdemeanor charge of passing a bad check after having been accused of writing a $30 check at Jim’s Brushless Car Wash, 238 Boardman-Canfield Road, which was returned on a closed account.
Burglary: Took place in the 100 block of Terrace Drive through a rear window. A Sony PlayStation 4 console and related items were taken.
Stolen property: A traffic stop on Arlene Avenue led to 25-year-old Jordan J. Paradise’s arrest on a felony charge of receiving stolen property after officers alleged that Paradise, of South Cadillac Drive, Boardman, was in a vehicle with a stolen license plate.
Recovered property: Southern Park Mall security personnel reported having found a wallet containing a bag with 6.5 grams of suspected heroin, as well as $317.
Theft: Two Poland girls, 15 and 17, were accused of stealing 12 articles of clothing valued at $335 from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.
Criminal mischief: Someone tossed Liquid Paper on a vehicle at Southern Park Mall.
Theft: Zachary M. Datchuk, 22, of Mauro Circle, Warren, was charged with stealing about $74 worth of clothing June 17 from Gabriel Bros., 850 Boardman-Poland Road. He also was wanted on a Warren warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Harassment: A Flagler Lane man said he received the latest in a series of such calls, including one asking him to engage in a fight.
Robbery: Authorities charged 21-year-old Trey D. Chatman of West LaClede Avenue, Youngstown, with aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, after two women in the 100 block of Shields Road reported having been robbed at gunpoint. Beforehand, the women apparently had confronted Chatman, who they accused of stealing money from one of them, a report showed.
July 17
Arrest: Authorities near Lake Park Road pulled over and took into custody 26-year-old Daniel L. Almon of South Inglewood Avenue, Youngstown. He was wanted on an Austintown warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Assault: Margaret L. Malone, 24, of Beaver, Pa., faced two simple-assault charges after two bartenders with Lanai Lounge, 7631 South Ave., reported having been assaulted. Malone had her hands around the neck of one of the employees; she also bit a second worker’s thumb and struck the accuser’s face as he tried to intervene, a report showed.
Breaking and entering: Someone pried open a rear door and entered a residence under construction in the 1700 block of Basil Avenue.
Theft: A Boardman man told police he gave another man $3,000 and a $7,000 cashiers check to buy a vehicle for him but that he hadn’t heard from the man.
Employee theft: Police charged 20-year-old Jaron E. Lewis of Catalina Avenue, Youngstown, with one count of felony theft after a Walmart manager alleged Lewis had stolen about $1,492 worth of merchandise, including a DVD player and a car stereo.
Harassment: A Tudor Lane man said a former friend and co-worker has sent him unwanted text messages.
Burglary: Occurred in the 5200 block of West Boulevard when someone pushed up a window and entered the apartment. Nothing appeared to be missing, however.
Theft: A vehicle check near Southern Boulevard led to the arrest of 22-year-old Lesa M. Oliver of Kensington Avenue, Youngstown, who was accused of stealing $20 worth of merchandise from Gabriel Bros.
July 18
Aggravated menacing: A Jeanne Lynn Drive woman reported a man threatened to kill and beat up the accuser as part of a dispute about their child.
Theft: A woman noticed her purse missing from a shopping cart at a Doral Drive big-box store.
Forgery: The owner of a Market Street consulting business told police that while checking the company’s financial activity, he discovered five checks had been duplicated and fraudulently charged to the business. Four were cashed for $6,684, a report said.
Theft: Rebecca N. Adams, 36, of Thalia Avenue, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of $29 worth of hair products from Walmart.
Criminal damaging: A truck at Southern Park Mall was found with a 4- or 5-inch gouge on its rear passenger-side quarter panel.
Theft: Officers charged Rodney G. Hughes of East Midlothian Boulevard, Youngstown, with theft. The 55-year-old Hughes was accused of stealing $21 worth of groceries from Modarelli’s Sparkle Market, 4121 South Ave.
July 19
Assault: Authorities charged 28-year-old Elias P. Samonas of Porter Avenue, Campbell, with assault and criminal damaging after his former girlfriend, of Huntington Drive, alleged Samonas had thrown her to the ground, kicked her head and slapped the accuser’s face. He also struck her car with a baseball bat, she further alleged.
Criminal damaging: Someone in the 100 block of Erskine Avenue cut a tire on a car’s passenger side. Damage was estimated at $140.
Theft: Youngstown police handed to township authorities Richard A. Harris, 48, of Indiana Avenue, Girard, who was charged with stealing numerous $70 figurines Jan. 23 from Amy’s Hallmark store, 377 Boardman-Poland Road.
Aggravated menacing: A Silver Fox Drive man alleged his brother-in-law called demanding money and threatening to break his jaw.
Menacing: A Wolosyn Circle man told officers a man called threatening to engage him in a fight that evidently was related to an earlier altercation between them.
Arrest: Hans W. Kirr, 49, of Sampson Drive, Girard, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired after having been pulled over on Boardman-Poland Road.
Criminal mischief: Someone ransacked a vehicle in the 5200 block of West Boulevard.
Harassment: A Red Tail Hawk Drive woman said her former boyfriend sent her such text messages.
Theft by deception: A Boardman woman told officers that while at a Doral Drive big-box store, a man sold her a gas card for $20 before she realized it had no value.
Theft: Youngstown authorities relinquished custody of Stephanie C. Woodland, 32, of Arden Boulevard, Youngstown. She was accused of stealing $90 worth of men’s cologne earlier this month from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.
Robbery: A man in his 30s wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, a short brown and curly wig, sunglasses and gray sweatpants handed a note to an employee with Subway restaurant, 5052 Youngstown-Poland Road, claiming he was armed and demanding money. The robber fled in a white sport utility vehicle with an undisclosed sum of money.
Theft: Austintown police handed 24-year-old Sylvester J. Gibbs to township authorities. Gibbs, of Aldrich Road, Youngstown, was accused of stealing $128 worth of items March 27 from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.
July 20
Theft: Both license plates were stolen off a vehicle in the 7600 block of South Avenue.
Criminal damaging: A Campbell man alleged his former girlfriend broke his car windows and slashed the tires while he was near Pheasant and Red Tail Hawk drives.
