On June 26, the Poland library hosted Bam! Pow! Games!, the library’s contribution to the Celebrate Poland event done throughout Poland Village.

Bam! Pow! Games! was a combination of various games and activities, both physical and intellectual, for children involving several different superheroes as the theme. This superhero theme follows closely with The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County’s Summer Discovery Program.

First, librarians Amanda Kollar and “Wonderwoman” Alex (Alex Lynch) went through a number of superheroes having participants identify each superhero for the sake of knowledge throughout the games.

“We’re doing a couple different superhero games today for some fun and prizes,” Lynch said.

Together, students played “Wonderwoman Says” — much like “Simon Says” — slowly dwindling down to a winner who got a prize of their choice from the table. Wonderwoman Alex said she had a hard time getting the children out because they were too good of listeners.

“You guys are too good, I can’t stump you,” Lynch said.

Another game the children played identifying the missing superhero, a memory game to keep students sharp-minded and paying attention.

After Bam! Pow! Games! parents had the opportunity to take their children across the street to Celebrate Poland for food, entertainment and more fun for the day.
