Inmate found hanging in Ohio jail cell dies

GEORGETOWN, Ohio (AP) — A sheriff says an inmate found hanging in his county jail cell in southern Ohio has died and the state is investigating.

Brown County Sheriff Dwayne Wenninger’s statements today say 29-year-old Jeremiah Hall was found about 8 p.m. Thursday and was pronounced dead at a hospital. Wenninger’s office is referring calls to the state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

BCI spokeswoman Jill Del Greco says the sheriff’s office requested the state investigate the apparent suicide and that investigation is continuing.

An inmate found hanging in his cell at the jail in 2013 also died. Wenninger’s office said 24-year-old Zachary Goldson hanged himself with a bedsheet. The county coroner ruled he died of strangulation.

A county grand jury heard evidence and returned no indictments.
