Trumbull treasurer files forclosure on 10 Sunshine Inc. properties

WARREN

The Trumbull County Treasurer’s Office recently filed foreclosures on 10 properties owned by Sunshine Inc., which uses federal money to provide affordable housing for low- and moderate-income families in the Warren area.

It brings to 23 the number of Sunshine properties in foreclosure and the total delinquency by the Warren-based corporation to $116,696.

The treasurer’s office made news in 2013 when it declared that Sunshine, a private housing corporation run by former Warren Auditor Tony Iannucci, no longer could remain $187,311 behind on its property taxes and fees.

The treasurer’s office threatened to foreclose on 87 properties. Sunshine Inc. got on a payment plan in 2014 for many of its properties.

Sunshine Inc. is now under contract to pay the delinquent taxes and fees on 74 of its properties and is about to make a third payment in the coming weeks, said Sam Robinson, deputy treasurer. At the current rate, those taxes and fees will be current in about 31/2 years.

The 10 properties listed in the foreclosure have a combined delinquency of $19,103.

When asked about the foreclosure filing, Iannucci said the 10 in the foreclosure filing are ones Sunshine is trying to sell, and Sunshine will pay the taxes current if the properties sell.

Sunshine has sold about a dozen of its properties in the past year to 18 months, Iannucci said.
