BREAKING NEWS | Aqua Pennsylvania asks customers to conserve water because of oil spill

BROOKFIELD — Aqua Pennsylvania is asking its customers in Brookfield and townships, city of Hubbard and the Shenango Valley area in Pennsylania to conserve water after a crude oil spill that caused it to shut down the raw-water intake at its water treatment plant as a precaution to protect its drinking-water supply.

Essential uses include water needed for eating and drinking. Nonessential uses include watering lawns, excessive showering, laundering and washing cars.

Aqua was notified about the spill this morning by the Mercer County Emergency Management Agency.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is on scene near 2601 Orangeville Road Northeast in Brookfield to contain and investigate a petroleum spill into the Shenango River which also flows into Mercer County.

Linda Oros, a spokeswoman for the OEPA, said they received the call at 9:40 a.m. A crude oil storage tank, which was rusted, had leaked a petroleum fluid into Shenango tributary.
