Woman sentenced to 50 days in jail for OVI crash

Chelsie N. Spelich, who took her mother’s car July 7 and crashed it into stopped traffic in Warren, injuring herself and two other people, has been sentenced to 50 more days in the Trumbull County Jail.

Spelich pleaded guilty or no contest to four charges Tuesday in Warren Municipal Court – driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, hit-and-run/leaving the scene of an accident, possessing drug paraphernalia and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

She also will serve five years’ probation after her jail term.

Charges of failing to maintain assured clear distance, driving without a license and a seat-belt violation were dismissed.

Spelich, 20, who has addresses in Cortland, Howland and Summerville, S.C., left the scene after hitting the back of a car stopped at a light at Summit Street and Tod Avenue Northwest at 7:40 a.m.

It caused a chain-reaction crash that involved four cars, including the police cruiser of officer Chris Martin. He and Spelich were taken to local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A third driver was treated at the scene.

Police found Spelich and the car she was driving crashed into a fence on Pacific Place shortly after the crash.
