Hubbard school board approves activity budget for upcoming school year

HUBBARD

The Hubbard school board has approved $278,747 for various student activity budgets for the 2015-16 school year.

The board authorized a fee of $9 per student for Hubbard Middle School students. The fee will go toward art and the student handbook.

The board also hired these employees for the upcoming school year: Megan Phiel as library media specialist; Brian Hoffman as weight-training adviser; and Natalie Huda as freshman cheerleading coach.

Additionally, the board requested the Ohio Board of Education exempt the school district from being required to provide technical education to seventh- and eighth-graders.

State code says schools must provide vocational training to students in grades seven through 12. A revised version of the code, however, permits schools to apply for a waiver if they do not wish to provide the training to seventh- and eighth-graders. Schools must apply for the waiver by Sept. 30.
