Charged after standoff

WARREN

Timothy Miller, 48, the man who barricaded himself in his house at 1037 Southern Blvd. on Monday afternoon and refused to come out for about four hours, was charged with three criminal offenses Tuesday.

He faces felony charges of inducing panic and misdemeanor discharging firearms and using weapons while intoxicated. It’s unknown when he will be arraigned. He was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation Monday night.

Family members called police about 4:30 p.m. after hearing a gunshot in his house. Police called the Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team to assist.

Miller walked out of the house and was taken into custody about 8:50 p.m. His only injuries were bruises resulting from bean bags being fired at him to try to stun him so he could be taken into custody.

Refuses to leave pool

YOUNGSTOWN

A Columbus woman was taken to the Mahoning County jail Monday after reports said she refused to leave North Side pool for violating pool rules.

Police were called to the pool at 602 Tod Lane about 6:45 p.m., where reports said an off-duty police officer working pool security tried to get Caprice Hill, 28, to leave and she refused.

According to police reports, she was asked to leave because she was pushing children into the water and did not stop even after being asked to stop several times.

Reports said Hill swore, threatened officers and staff and pulled away from police who tried to take her into custody. The pool manager at some point used pepper spray on her, reports said.

Hill was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and menacing.

Warrant in theft case

HUBBARD

Police filed a warrant Tuesday for the arrest of Jasmine Smith, 20, of Youngstown, on a charge of theft. According to a police report, Smith attempted to cash a $990 handwritten check from Downtown Coffee Cafe on North Main Street in Hubbard at Check Smart on Gypsy Lane on June 27.

The Downtown Coffee Cafe bookkeeper said the check was forged, and Smith did not work for the business.

DUI, drug charges

LIBERTY

Police arrested Jason Marble, 35, of Youngstown on Monday on charges of driving under the influence, possession of drugs and possession of drug-abuse instruments.

A police report states that Marble was unconscious behind the wheel while his car was rolling toward Belmont Avenue. Once he was revived, Marble told paramedics he had consumed an undetermined amount of Vicodin, according to the report. The report also states that Marble had a Vicodin pill and a hypodermic needle in his possession. Marble will be arraigned Tuesday in Girard Municipal Court.

Sign up for band camp

YOUNgSTOWN

Parents and guardians of Youngstown City Schools eighth-through-12th-graders may sign them up for band camp. The camp runs from Monday to Aug. 19 at the Chaney Campus, and transportation will be provided to participants at designated sites.

There is a $20 fee to cover each student’s instrument rental for this summer’s band camp, as well as for the school year. The camp runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. next week and the following week, and from 3 to 6 p.m. through the end. Arrested on DUI charge

CAMPBELL

Police arrested Michael Kantaras, 67, of Campbell at Gordon Avenue and 14th Street on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs Monday. He will be arraigned Friday in Campbell Municipal Court.

Planning meeting set

BELOIT

The West Branch school board will have a special meeting for strategic planning from 3 to 6 p.m. today in the media room at the high school, 14277 Main St.

Police probe thefts

HUBBARD

Township police are investigating thefts reported Monday by two businesses on Truck World Boulevard.

The owner of C.B. Shop told police he returned to his business Monday to find that it was unlocked and that someone had taken $100 in cash.

A Flynn’s Tire employee told police someone had gotten past the warehouse’s locked gates and taken $2,320 worth of items from the company’s service trucks.

Roads closed for race

WEST FARMINGTON

Girdle Road between Larson-West Road and state Route 88 in Farmington Township will be closed from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday for the West Farmington Festival 5K Race. The township will also close Larson-West Road from Girdle Road to Curtis-Middlefield Road.

The recommended detour route is east on Larson-West; south on state Route 534; and west on Route 88.

Closed for block party

Belmont Street at Mercher and North Park in Warren will be closed from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday for a block party.

Talent show, awards

WARREN

The 300 students enrolled in the Inspiring Minds summer enrichment mark the end of the program Friday with an awards ceremony and talent show.

The awards ceremony begins at 1 p.m. followed by the program-wide talent show at 1:45 p.m., both in the cafetorium at Warren G. Harding High School. The free six-week program for students in third through 12th grades works to prevent the summer learning loss, offering art, sports, swimming lessons, yoga, community service, college visits, business tours, cooking lessons and field trips. Parents, community supporters and partners are expected at Friday’s event.

Traffic-stop drug arrest

STRUTHERS

A traffic stop Monday at Walnut Street and Elm Street led to an arrest of a man on charges of possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia. A police report states that Timothy Valley, 31, of Youngstown, had suspected marijuana and a grinder with suspected marijuana residue in his vehicle. He will be arraigned today in Struthers Municipal Court.
