13-year-old Grove City boy seriously injured in car mishap


MERCER, PA.

A 13-year-old Grove City, Pa., boy was seriously injured when he lost control of the car he was driving east on state Route 58 just west of Parker Road in Findley Township at about 4:45 a.m. today.

A report from the Pennsylvania State Police, Mercer, said the car traveled off the south berm down a four-foot embankment running into small bushes and tall grass. The vehicle continued for another 315 feet running over the top of a fallen tree before stopping.

The driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was extricated from the vehicle by the Mercer East End Volunteer Fire Department and treated at the scene by Superior Ambulance before he was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital Youngstown via Stat Medvac helicopter for treatment of major injuries, police said.
