Police ID suspect in Lowellville cannon explosion

LOWELLVILLE — Police have identified a suspect for the explosion of a homemade cannon near McGill Street and Grant Street Saturday, Capt. Donald Coppola said.

An overpacked cannon exploded like a pipe bomb and the blast injured three people and caused damage to several homes and vehicles, officials said.

Coppola said one victim suffered shrapnel in his leg, the second victim received injuries to his lower back and forehead and the third victim complained of hearing loss.
