Parents and guardians of children in grades eight through 12 who attend Youngstown City Schools are encouraged to sign them up for Band Camp 2015.

The first camp session will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. next Monday through Aug. 19 at the Chaney Campus, 731 S. Hazelwood Ave., and transportation will be provided to participants at designated sites throughout the city.

There is a $20 fee to cover each student’s instrument rental for the band camp, as well as the remainder of the school year. The camp’s schedule for other sessions, also from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., are Aug. 3 and 7, and from 3 to 6 p.m. Aug. 10-12 and 17-19.

Grant proposals

The Western Reserve Health Foundation and the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation are seeking proposals for grants it provides for programs that serve health-related needs in Mahoning and Trumbull counties.

The deadline for initial letters of inquiry is Aug. 17. The required forms and more information about funding priorities are available at the WRHF and TMHF sections of the Community Foundation website at www.cfmv.org. Those invited to submit full proposals will be notified in September.

“The foundations give strong consideration to the needs specified in the community health assessments published by the Mahoning and Trumbull county health departments,” said Shari Harrell, president of the Community Foundation.

Reunion banquet

The Marine Corps League Tri-State Marine Detachment 494’s 36th annual Marine Corps reunion banquet is Aug. 15 at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road.

Tickets are $25 each. For reservations, call Chester Kaschak at 330-533-6084. The event is open to all Marines, past and present, and their guests.

The reunion starts at 6 p.m. with refreshments. Dinner is set for 7 followed by the speaker, music and dancing until midnight. The speaker, who be assigned by the Marine Corps Commandant’s, office will be announced at a later date. The evening also will include door prizes, a bucket auction and a 50/50 raffle.
