Austintown man faces assault charges after domestic dispute

AUSTINTOWN — A township man is charged with two counts of felonious assault after reportedly assaulting and threatening his wife and mother-in-law.

Police responded to a Burkey Road home Sunday in reference to a domestic dispute.

The alleged victims said that William J. Murphy III, 28, damaged property in the house, put them in chokeholds, threatened to hit them with baseball bats and a brick, and attempted to run his wife over with a vehicle.

Murphy reportedly was extremely uncooperative and aggressive with police officers, paramedics and hospital personnel. He was taken to the hospital after complaint of chest pains and difficulty breathing.

Murphy was taken to the Mahoning County jail and is scheduled to appear in court this afternoon.
