Police arrested Tyler Morrell, 21, of Salem, on a charge of possession of heroin.

Morrell was driving a vehicle that was missing a rearview mirror and had a large crack on the driver’s side of the windshield.

According to a police report, officers stopped the vehicle on Dewey Avenue near Oak Hill Avenue on the South Side at 5:45 p.m. Friday. There were two other passengers in the vehicle. All three got out so police could do an inventory before having it towed.

Police found a small amount of suspected heroin wrapped in a newspaper underneath the driver’s seat. Officers took Morrell to the county jail. The passengers, both juveniles, were released to the custody of a relative.
