Turtle Derby raises $29,000 for Lions Club charities

SPECIAL TO THE VINDICATOR The 54th annual Turtle Derby, which took place June 22 in Lowellville during the Cruising on the River Car Show, earned more than $29,000 for the Youngstown Lions Club. More than 50 turtles competed in the race. Since 1920 the club has donated eyeglasses and funds to local charities sponsored by Lions Club International. One of the events is the annual benefit Christmas party for developmentally disabled children in the Youngstown area. At left are children preparing their turtles for the race.
