Staff from the Pop-Up Library visited Fellows Riverside Gardens on June 19.

Hayley McEwing, assistant specialist in community outreach, helped run this moveable library during Family Fun Friday, an event hosted weekly at Fellows Riverside Gardens.

“It is a little mobile library, we are bringing materials out of the library for checkout,” McEwing said.

With her, McEwing had a small device allowing her access to the internet enabling her to provide all of the services available at any library.

“We can show you the website, do some reference questions, checkout and get you a card if you don’t have one,” McEwing said. “We talk a lot about our digital services, databases, help with streaming movies, music, ebooks or online courses.”

The Pop-Up Library got its start a little over a year ago with much promise to continue progressing following a trend of many other library organizations.

“Everyone is still bringing a lot of new ideas to the table,” McEwing said. “It’s still growing.”

The Pop-Up Library kicked off with the purpose of connecting more with community events.

“We have a lot of community conversations, and in that there was a need with a lot of the Youngstown community schools to be visiting the students in the schools and bringing materials to them,” McEwing said. “That’s a big part of what we do during the school year.”
