A 44-year-old West Side man told police he woke up about 4:05 a.m. Wednesday to an unidentified man standing over him who stabbed him.
Police found the victim lying on his back and bleeding from a wound to his chest inside his home in the 100 block of North Belle Vista Avenue. The victim told police after he was stabbed, the man ran out a back door. Reports said there were no signs of forced entry to the home.
A man who lives in the home said he was awakened by the victim. Police did find a knife, reports said.
Reports did not say if the victim was taken to a hospital.
Worker injured
YOUNGSTOWN
A 31-year-old construction worker fell and suffered head injuries while working with a crew on the bleachers in Stambaugh Stadium on Thursday afternoon, according to Youngstown State University police.
Police say the man, who works for Advanced Restoration Contractors, based in Indianapolis, was walking between rows of concrete bleachers near the top of the stadium when he fell. The accident happened at 12:27 p.m.
Co-workers came to his aid and called 911, police said. The man was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
No information was available late Thursday on his name or condition.
Utility pole struck
YOUNGSTOWN
Police say the driver of a car that hit a utility pole about 1 a.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Glenwood Avenue ran away from the accident.
Reports said officers were told by witnesses that the person driving the car ran away and got into a pickup truck. The crash knocked power out to the area.
As police were on the scene, they got a call from the car’s owner, who said he left it running in the parking lot of a nearby bar and someone jumped in and drove it away.
Glenwood Avenue was closed between Breaden Avenue and Carrol Street until power was restored. Police cleared the scene about 4 a.m., reports said.
Woman shot
WARREN
A city woman, 53, was shot in the breast as she walked intoxicated down Southern Boulevard at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, she told police. She showed an officer the wound.
The shot came from people in a car who pulled up near her and fired one or two times, then left, she said. he went to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
