EGCC receives a grant for low-income students


YOUNGSTOWN — Eastern Gateway Community College will get a $230,666 U.S. Department of Education grant to assist 160 low-income students.

U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, announced the college’s receipt of the grant.

Kent State University received a $443,212 grant and Stark State College’s grant is for $231,103.

EGCC’s grant will go toward providing the students with advising, priority registration, financial aid and academic counseling, emotional support and role modeling, individual and group tutoring, career exploration and guidance and workshops to gain college, life, and financial skills.
