Officials meet to discuss lake testing protocols at Mill Creek Park

CANFIELD — Mill Creek MetroParks, Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, and city and county health board officials are meeting to come up with water-testing protocol for the park bodies of water impacted by city sewer overflows.

The meeting follows a massive fish kill in Lake Newport at the end of June caused by the overflows. The park system closed lakes Newport, Glacier and Cohasset July 10 until further notices after tests determined that there were elevated E. coli levels in the water.

The meeting at the MetroParks Farm in Canfield is expected to wrap up shortly.
