Man sentenced

WARREN

Tedy Mendez II, 24, of Laird Avenue Southeast and Western Reserve Place in Austintown, was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday for injuring his 4-year-old daughter in January.

He pleaded guilty in March to two counts of child endangering before Judge W. Wyatt McKay of Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Gabe Wildman, assistant county prosecutor, said the girl suffered a skull fracture, broken arm and bruising “from head to toe” while under the supervision of Mendez and his girlfriend, Kayla Liller, 20, who also is charged.

Missing boy found

WARREN

A 15-year-old boy who went missing earlier Wednesday morning was found in the early evening.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol located Adam Burgard on Bunker Road near Orwell about 7:30 p.m. The Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office reported the boy was not kidnapped and, although there were questions that needed to be answered, was in excellent condition.

Adam was seen last at 9 a.m. while participating in a cross-country track event with his school along state Route 87 in Greene Township. He failed to return with his Maplewood running mates.

The Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office said the case is under investigation.

Fire destroys home

CANFIELD

A township home was destroyed after an overnight fire. The Cardinal Joint Fire District was called to 4959 Shields Road, near state Route 11, about 11:55 p.m. Tuesday.

Fire Chief Don Hutchison said the male homeowner woke up to smoke and attempted to put out the fire with a garden hose. There were no injuries to firefighters, and the homeowner was checked for smoke inhalation.

Hutchison said more than half the house was burned down, with a partial roof collapse, as well as about half of the garage. There were no cost estimates available Wednesday on the damage, but Hutchison called the home and garage a total loss. There are no fire hydrants on that part of Shields, so Boardman and Austintown fire departments were called to help fight the fire and Green, Ellsworth, Jackson and Beaver fire departments were called to provide water tankers.
