Man charged with stealing purses

BOARDMAN

Police have arrested Dustin Beach, 29, of Boardman, and charged him with four counts of theft. He is charged with stealing purses from multiple elderly women while they were shopping.

An 82-year-old woman reported Tuesday that Beach stole her purse while pretending to help her shop at the Walmart on Doral Road in Boardman. A police report says Beach then left the Walmart and proceeded to the Giant Eagle on Boardman-Canfield Road, where police said he stole another purse from an 85-year-old woman.

Police arrested Beach in the Giant Eagle parking lot Tuesday and discovered he had a purse belonging to the 85-year-old woman and a wallet belonging to a 28-year-old Giant Eagle employee.

Liberty Township police suspect Beach also was responsible for stealing a purse from an elderly woman’s unattended shopping cart at the Goldie Road Walmart on Saturday.

He is in the Mahoning County jail until his arraignment today in Mahoning County Area Court here.

2 face burglary charges after test-driving car

BOARDMAN

Township police Tuesday arrested a Youngstown man wanted in connection with a burglary that also led to the arrest of Steven Direnzo, 43, of Lightner Place, after a police chase Monday.

Donald Patterson, 41, of East Midlothian Boulevard, surrendered to township police Tuesday morning.

The burglary charge stems from a July 10 incident in which Patterson and Direnzo allegedly ransacked a Sheridan Road home, taking cash and $1,000 worth of mint coins.

The pair is accused of going to a car dealership Friday, asking to test drive a car and then driving that car — with the car salesman with them — to the house they purportedly burglarized.

Patterson is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing Aug. 4.
